CHANGES TO ACCESSING GRAND RAPIDS PUBLIC LIBRARY MATERIALS STARTING ON SEPTEMBER 29,2008

The Grand Rapids Public Library will no longer be participating in the Lakeland shared catalog and will be changing to a separate catalog system called "Evergreen". There will be no change in the way materials owned by all other Lakeland Library Coop member libraries are listed or handled. Holds can be placed and materials will continue to be delivered to the Lakeland library of your choice.

What does the Grand Rapids Public Library change mean for you?

  • When you search the Lakeland Library Coop shared catalog you will no longer see the materials owned by Grand Rapids Public Library.

  • If you want a title that is not owned by a Lakeland Library Coop member, you may check to see if the GRPL owns it. An "Evergreen" icon will appear on the Lakeland Library shared catalog screen and provide you access to Grand Rapids materials.

  • If you ant to borrow materials from the GRPL, you will nee to drive there to pick them up. You may also place a hold on an item using the "Evergreen" system and choose the GRPL branch where you will pick it up when it is available.

  • If you have an "existing" hold on Sept. 29, 2008 for a title that is only owned by GRPL, you will be contacted by the GRPL to change your pickup location to a GRPL branch.

  • It is strongly recommended that you return GRPL materials to one of their branch locations. If you return a GRPL item to another Lakeland Library, it will take approximately 5 days to get to a GRPL. Fines may be incurred during this time.

  • If you owe fines or fees to the GRPL, you will need to pay them at a GRPL branch or online.

  • You may renew GRPL collection items online using the "Evergreen" catalog, by calling them or by visiting on of their branches in person

  • The first time you access the "Evergreen" catalog you will be asked to select your own PIN. If you want your "Evergreen" PIN to match your Lakeland PIN for ease of remembering, enter the same PIN in "Evergreen" that you use for your Lakeland account.

  • If you lose your library card you will need to replace it at a Lakeland Library. The GRPL cannot issue a replacement or temp card for other Lakeland Library members, and will not check out items to you unless you have a card.

New Infant-Toddler language and early literacy activities are now available for downloading on the Washington Systems website.

These materials include twenty(20) home and community activities for adults and children (birth-3) that encourage early language and literacy development. They are appropriate for children with disabilities as well as children who are developing typically.

The materials are specifically designed to address the three key skills  of 1)language development, 2) sounds and rhythms, and 3( general book and print awareness.)

To download materials go to www.walearing.com and click on the purple button that says "Free Parent Education Handouts" on the homepage.

The development of these materials was supported by Grant H324M020084 from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs

Welcome to MeLCat - Added Lakeland Service Starting October 1, 2008
  • Most Lakeland Library Coop member libraries are adding this new service. Patrons will be able to request items from the statewide MeLCat catalog and have them delivered to their home library. This service can be used to replace the GRPL collection and offers much broader and extensive access to over 250 public, academic, school and special library collections in Michigan. The MeLCat icon will appear on the Lakeland Library Cooperative shared catalog screen. Ask staff to assist you in learning more about this added service.
